Most people in the lake area are familiar with the organization C.O.P.S., or Concerns of Police Survivors. They provide support to families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. First responders met earlier this week with representatives from a similar group known as Supporting Heroes. Eric Johnson says they work with COPS, but there are some differences between the two organizations.
Based in Kentucky, Supporting Heroes has been providing support to police, fire, and EMS since 2004. That support can be for a line-of-duty death or critical injury. They’ve provided support for 17 cases in Missouri since 2016. Supporting Heroes is funded by contributions from first responders as well as donations from the public.
