A Macks Creek man is facing charges after attempting to escape during an arrest in Camden County. 20-year old William Vanos was in a vehicle that was pulled over late Monday night when the deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana eminating from inside the car. Vanos and three other people were asked to step out of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana and a small bag of methamphetamine. According to the report, Vanos admitted to using meth earlier in the day. As the deputy attempted to arrest him, Vanos lunged at him and began a physical altercation involving both officers on scene. Deputies used a taser to subdue Vanos and took him into custody. He’s charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree assault, and attempted escape. Both Vanos and one of the deputies suffered minor injuries in the scuffle.
