Man Dies After Being Hit By His Own Anchor

A man is dead following a freak accident with an anchor.

According to the Highway Patrol’s Water Division, 55-year-old Craig Gathmann of Mainto Illinois began to accelerate his 1994 Four Winns around the 19 ½ mile mark with the anchor still in the water.

Officials say the anchor’s tension rope snapped, causing the anchor to fly out of the water and slam into Gathmann.

He was pronounced dead at Lake Regional Hospital.
