The identity of a man who drowned while swimming away from law enforcement after crashing a car into a pond, in Miller County, has now been released. The Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Zachary Lewis, of Rolla, had been leading deputies from Miller County on the pursuit shortly after 7:30 Saturday morning, along Kent Road near Eldon, when the accident happened. Lewis got out of the car and refused to come to shore swimming away before he went under and did not resurface. An unidentified female, also in the car, reportedly surrendered right away. A check of court records reveal that Lewis just had his probation revoked and received a suspended 10-year sentence on a distribution charge in Phelps County.
