The School of the Osage, like other school districts, will be missing the essays from this year’s MAP test.
This year and next due to the state cutting funding for grading, the long written questions will be removed. Assistant Superintendent Mary Anne Graham says the school will still have some written portions to fulfill the performance evaluations.
“I have mixed feelings since Missouri has discontinued theirs,” Graham said. “I know that we are part of a national movement and in 2013 we will put them back in. But at that time about thirty states will be developing them together and sharing the cost.”
The assistant superintendent says the consortium will help since the state has made no promise to bring the questions back.
“There’s no promise I guess but we did join a consortium. Missouri is a voting board member of the SMART consortium and they are developing test questions.”
“We still have quite a pool of questions that we developed ourselves that we can contribute or work with or help with the rubrics to score them.”
Due to snow days the map testing this year will be held through the entire month of April.
