The new smart home for U.S. Marine Corporal Todd Nicely is now officially under construction.
The groundbreaking yesterday brought together several foundations and the local community who will help build the home on Four Seasons for Todd and his wife Crystal. Corporal Nicely was asked yesterday how he first reacted when Frank Siller from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation told him the house would be built.
The Marine Corporal lost his arms and legs in an I.E.D. explosion back in Afghanistan in March of 2010. His wife Crystal, who ended her active service with the Marines back in 2009, says the good will yesterday was amazing.
Todd says he spent time at his grandpa’s condo on Summer Haven, Crystal worked for Wonderland Camp for three summers, so both are very happy to call the lake home.
Todd says his rehabilitation has gone well and he is adjusting to the loss of his limbs.
“I’m getting along pretty well, I’m walking and moving and I can do some things on my ow now, there are still some things that I am working on, but it is going to be a work in progress for a while,” Todd said.
“They made me some golf prosthetics, but with it getting cold it slowing down on that season, but I have been biking and running, so I am keeping myself occupied.”
Crystal says the gift of the home will make a huge difference in Todd’s life.
Todd had one final thought about the whole experience.
