A bill designed to assist in access to cheaper prescription drugs is drawing support from the Trump administration. The Patient Right to Know Drug Prices Act sponsored by Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill would prohibit gag clauses at pharmacies, which prevent the pharmacists from informing customers when their medications would cost them less out-of-pocket than if they used their insurance plan. The Secretary of Health and Human Services is calling on Congress to pass the legislation. It’s estimated that such gag clauses lead to consumers overspent for prescriptions to the tune of $135 million in 2013.
