The senator says she agrees with the junior senator’s idea but says America’s debate needs more traction.
“What happens in America, we get worried about this just when gas prices go up and then we go back to thinking, well, no, everything is fine and we don’t need to worry about it anymore,” Mccaskill said. “I think that this should be a wake up call that this is a problem that we have to continually address.”
The senator sees the need for the development of alternatives as part of the equation.
“I have no problem with the government incentivizing the creation of alternative fuels to get us out from underneath the thumb of foreign oil.”
“But we have got to make sure that those are not entitlement programs but rather transitional programs that allow the establishment of a free market.”
The senator says drilling domestically should also be on the table.
