When the final ballots trickled into the Camden County Courthouse Tuesday night, an issue asking for a 25-cent tax levy increase was shot down by patrons in the Mid-County Fire District. Chief Scott Frandsen says it’s a setback but he’s still optimistic about the future.
Failure of the measure will put a temporary hold on adding personnel and providing a long-term capital improvement process for the district. Frandsen adds that ballot language may have been the biggest stumbling block appearing to be a straight-up request for more tax revenue instead of, what he called, more of a tax levy swap to replace the same amount falling off the district’s debt service levy.
