Another mild winter may have been good news for many but, overall, the Lake Area will more than likely pay for it over the next few months. Miller County Health Administrator Bruce Jenkins says the warmer than usual winter temperatures will mean that springtime pests, such as ticks, will make their arrivals sooner and stay for a longer period of time.
Jenkins goes on to say that we need to take the usual precautions when it comes to ticks such as covering as much of our exposed skin as we can and using repellents. If you are removing a tick which has dug in, make sure to use tweezers so its head is also removed. And, when in doubt after a tick bite, if you start running a fever and feel aches and pains, it’s probably best to head to your doctor just in case.
