Nearly 2 million members of the U.S. Military have been awarded a Purple Heart since it was first awarded in 1932. The Military Order of the Purple Heart has been working to raise awareness and appreciation for the men and women who have made that sacrifice. They are working to name Purple Heart Counties all over the state and will be designating Miller County as one of those. Barlow Biggers, Director for the Miller County Emergency Management Department, says the designation is a huge honor.
The designation ceremony, at the courthouse, will be on September 16th at noon and will include a rifle salute, taps, and an Air Force flyover.
