An EMT with the Miller County Ambulance District is recognized for going beyond the call of normal duty. Administrator Ron Schlict and board president Kevin Holtmeyer say that Kathleen Vernon was on a routine transfer back in late March, with a patient, from Lake Regional down to the Cox Rehab Center in Springfield. Along the way, Vernon came upon a rollover accident on Interstate-44 with the vehicle involved catching on fire. At that time, Vernon pulled over running to the vehicle and pulled the injured driver out to safety administering first aid until other EMT’s arrived, at which time, it was back to finish her transfer to Cox. For those efforts, Vernon was recognized by the Miller County Ambulance District being awarded a Medal of Valor Citation.
