Rev. David Tolliver the executive director of the Missouri Baptist convention has resigned this past Friday “due to immoral behavior with a woman,” according to a statement from the organization. Tolliver had led the 600,000-member state arm of the southern Baptist convention since the beginning of February 2009. Jay hughes, the organization’s associate executive director of support services will be serving as the acting interim executive director until further notice. Tolliver had worked for the Missouri Baptist convention as an associate executive director since 2005. The southern Baptist convention is the largest protestant denomination in the u.s. with about 16 million members with an estimated 2,000 southern Baptist churches in Missouri.
