Nationwide, 90% of people wear their seat belts. According to MoDOT, Missouri has consistently gone up over the past 17 years but still comes in below average at 81%. This statistic has the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety joining state and local law enforcement for the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign to promote the use of seat belts. The campaign lasts from May 22nd through June 4th. Highway Patrol Superintendent Colonel Sandra Karsten says that 64% of the 943 lives lost in Missouri crashes were unbuckled.
