The Cut, Cap and Balance Act passed the U.S. House 234 to 190 last night with the Missouri delegation split six to three in favor. The bill would introduce immediate cuts in spending to reduce the deficit, put in place enforceable spending caps to put the federal government on the path to a balanced budget, and create a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution as well as a super majority requirement to raise taxes. Congressmen Akin, Hartzler, Graves, Long, Emerson and Luetkemeyer voted in favor. Congressmen Clay, Carnahan and Cleaver voted against.
