Good news in the state of Missouri, The Department of Conservation is reporting that the Elk population is on the rise again. After several years of declining population numbers, Conservation officials announced this weekend that there are between 125 to 130 elk on the ground. Since the number has been in the danger zone, hunting season for Elk was shut down. But officials say if they can raise the population over the 200 mark, they may bring it back. Conservation officials monitor the Elk using collars. Several things affected the population including disease, food supply and poaching.
