The Missouri public service commission is seeking comments from the public and telecommunications companies regarding the possible creation of a universal service high-cost fund. The fund would be used to assist phone companies in building infrastructure to provide telecommunications services to customers in areas of the state that are costly to serve. Funding would likely be through a surcharge placed on customer bills. Both the public and telecommunications companies are being asked by the commission to submit questions and comment on the possible need for the proposed fund. Questions and comments may be submitted to the Missouri public service commission until February 14th.
