Missouri residents are getting a little smarter when it comes to falling for certain scam attempts. According to the most recent data from the FBI’s Crime Complaint Center, Missouri ranks 23rd in terms of the number of reported cases of catfishing. During the last year state residents filed 23 reported complaints. The victims were swindled out of over $95,000. Catfishing is described as the act of deceiving someone online. The scammer assumes a false identity to begin an online relationship with their victim, gains their trust, then takes their cash.
