The Missouri Senate has passed a compromise that would reinstate limits on non-economic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits. The State Supreme Court overturned the caps three years ago and now the senate voted to approve a measure limiting awards for pain and suffering to $400,000. Catastrophic injuries and wrongful death would be limited to $700,000. Supporters of the bill say without caps, doctors will leave the state due to higher insurance costs. It now goes to the house for consideration.
