The State of Missouri continues surging to the top of a list for a distinction, nationwide, nobody wants to claim. With 44 fire-related fatalities reported over the first five months of the year, Missouri is now the third highest per capita in that category. And with several of those fire-related fatalities reported in the Lake Area, the call for properly installed smoke detectors is echoing louder than ever.
Lake Ozark Fire Chief Mark Amsinger, whose district recently lost four children in a house fire, says even a smoke detector systems hardwired in your home needs to be checked and maintained on a regular basis.
Nationwide, there have been more than eleven-hundred fire fatalities heading into this past weekend.
