Missouri Department of Transportation Director Kevin Keith met with elected officials from Morgan, Miller, Camden and Laclede counties Monday, explaining the expected impact of the 50 percent reduction in the state highway construction budget. Keith told a meeting of the Lake of the Ozarks Council of Local Governments MoDOT had $1.2 billion available each year for the past six years to fund construction and maintenance projects. That will drop to $600 million annually for next five years. Projects already funded, including the Hurricane Deck bridge reconstruction, will go ahead as planned. But, Keith says, after 2013-2014, MoDOT’s work will largely be confined to maintenance.
