Motorists around the Lake Area might notice a change in the appearance of some sections of roadway. The sections appear to have a tan tint and are showing up along curves where there has been a history of problems especially during times of bad weather. The material being put down, according to MoDOT Area Engineer Bob Lynch, is called High Friction Surface Treatment.
In the Lake Area, so far, the treatment has been applied along north Highway 5 in Greenview, Highway 54 in Linn Creek and along Route-W on the north shore in the area commonly referred to as “Dead Man’s Curve.” The high friction surface treatment is relatively new in Missouri and has proven to help keep vehicles on roadways…even if the problem, perhaps, is the driver and not the roadway.
