MoDot is warning motorists to prepare for possible slow-moving traffic as they prepare to start their annual mowing schedule. Beginning in May, they’ll mow a total of about 400,000 acres – the equivalent of 300,000 football fields. They do it in three cycles beginning in mid-May, mid-July, and mid-September. On rural two-lane roads, MoDot may use a follow truck to warn motorists that they’re approaching a mowing crew. Trucks and tractors could be moving as slow as 2-5 mph. Drivers should be patient and use extreme caution when passing a mowing crew.
