The Missouri Department of Transportation has released the latest numbers regarding highway fatalities and the number of people killed that were not wearing seat belts. So far this year 168 people have died in traffic accidents, 66% of which were due to people not wearing seat belts. In the Highway Patrol’s Troop “F” which serves several counties in the state including the Lake Area, there have been 16 fatalities so far this year. The most recent were a mother and her 27 year old daughter who were killed on Wednesday after the driver of a tractor trailer smashed into the back of their car on Highway 54 near Route “W” in a multiple vehicle accident. The driver of the tractor trailer has been arrested on two counts of involuntary manslaughter.
