Have you ever wondered why MoDOT is overlaying or applying other materials to roadways which still seem to be in good shape? If so, the answer is simple. It’s called “preventative maintenance” according to area engineer Bob Lynch. Lynch says it’s something that needs to be done on a regular basis to save on what would otherwise turn into major repairs
Lynch, a regular guest on the “Ozarks This Morning,” goes on to say that preventative overlays and other work are routinely scheduled for every 7-9 years on major routes. That timeframe for work on minor routes is generally extended a bit more with periodic chip seals usually taking care of most problems.
