The Department of Transportation is streamlining a permitting process in an effort to help drought-stricken farmers needing to move hay quickly. MoDot is offering a special overwidth hauling permit and making it easier to obtain. Farmers can apply over the phone and the permits will be issued within minutes by fax or email. The department is also waiving the normal permit fees through October 31st. In addition to allowing larger loads, the permits also allow farmers to transport their hay during holiday periods and at night. To apply, call 1-800-877-8499.
