The Missouri Department of Transportation has begun a push to support legislation which would ban the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle. MoDOT area engineer Bob Lynch says the department supports a total ban on texting and other cell phone use because of an increase in fatality accidents across the state and nationwide.
There are two bills being considered in the Missouri General Assembly to ban cell phone use and other forms of distracted driving. Senate Bill 510, sponsored by Greene County area representative Bob Dixon, and House Bill 312 sponsored by Kirksville area representative Nate Walker. Neither one, currently however, appears on the calendar.
