The Missouri Department of Transportation is looking at this coming Saturday as the final demolition of the old hurricane deck bridge. Over the past few months the contractor working on the bridge has been taking it down a section at a time and the final section is about to stand for the last time. Area engineer Bob Lynch says part of the delay is the contractor’s other bridge demolitions
Lynch says they are getting some phone calls from locals about the metal on the bridge
If the weather conditions are good they will stay with the Saturday date since they have done it on Saturdays in the past. During the blast they will close highway 5 over the new hurricane deck bridge for a period of time and will close the area around the old bridge on the water for a few hours before and after the blast. When that section is taken down the era of old bridges in the lake area on main roadways will come to an end as every bridge from Warsaw to Bagnell dam has been replaced in the past 20 years.
Lynch also says there are several overlaying projects planned throughout the year in the lake area
Lynch says they will still be focusing on the main routes first then the minor routes as they are working on a smaller budget than in years past. Their goal is maintaining instead of replacing as the replacement of the hurricane deck bridge and completion of the highway 54 expressway were some of the final major projects planned for MODOT to complete.
