The Missouri Department of Transportation has a message for drivers. The department is looking at using a long range acoustical device or “l-Rad” in hopes of getting the attention of motorists when road crews are out working on the highways. However, MODOT Area Engineer Bob Lynch says the technology is not being used at this time.
The long range acoustic device puts out up to 153 decibels and would alert drivers to road conditions by shooting a loud verbal message through the windshield. L-Rad technology could be implemented in the next year or two and would cost $25-thousand dollars per device.
