It’s official; the General Assembly approved placing the Missouri Department of Transportation’s 3 quarters of a cent sales tax proposal on the August ballot in Missouri. MODOT is looking to raise the taxes in order to fund future plans that are currently either on hold or not happening due to lack of money within the department. Area engineer Bob Lynch with MODOT’s central district says they’re excited to show the public why the sales tax is worth investing in
Lynch says the next step for them is to finalize the ideas for the lake area which the plan to do this month:
Earlier this week Governor Nixon came out against the idea saying quote it’s neither fair nor a fiscally responsible solution to pay for transportation needs in Missouri. Nixon says the proposal which is expected to bring in about $534 million dollars annually for ten years would fall disproportionately on working families and seniors.
