The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office tells KRMS News that in response to comments from Sheriff White from Cole County….they firmly believe that there needs to be more open dialogue and information sharing between the federal government and local law enforcement officials when it comes to individuals listed on the terrorist watch list or under investigation for terrorist activities. Sheriff Jim Petty says at the present time there is zero communication with federal law enforcement on this matter local law enforcement come in contact with these people on a daily basis without having any knowledge of their activities. If these individuals are on a watch list then, who better to watch them than law enforcement officers who have constant contact with them. Currently there is no good system in place to report suspicious activity to the federal government or for them to notify us. The Morgan County Sheriffs’ department encourages other local law enforcement agencies to get involved so the process be improved.
