The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department spent a part of Halloween night conducting compliance checks of registered sex offenders. As required by law, offenders cannot have any Halloween-related contact with children, they must remain inside their residence between 5:00-10:30pm, post a sign indicating they were not handing out any candy or treats and to leave all outside lighting off during the evening hours. Sheriff Norman Dills says, between his department and the Versailles PD, there were approximately 35 offenders checked. Half-a-dozen of them were issued summonses for failure to comply. The offense is considered a class-A misdemeanor.
