The new drug court for Morgan, Miller, and Moniteau counties has their first candidate. Morgan County Prosecutor Dustin Dunklee says the drug court provides a new option for dealing with drug offenders.
That supervision includes possibly multiple random drug tests, probation, mental health screening and treatment, and immediate ramifications for any violations. There is no restriction on candidates based on the types of drugs involved in their case, but they can’t have any violent crimes or any charges of distributing controlled substances. The goal of the program is to lower costs to taxpayers, get offenders treatment they need, and reduce recidivism.
