Morgan county R-II school district officials are proposing for a 15-cent levy increase to offset the cost they would need to complete a usable storm shelter in the school. Recently, the school district was approved for a grant from the federal emergency management agency to help build the storm shelter. Superintendent Dr. Joyce Ryerson says the grant only covers a portion of the costs:
The tax levy increase will help pay for the remaining 25% in order to create the storm shelter, which will also be used as an auditorium. Ryerson says, at this time, they don’t have the exact location to where the storm shelter will be built, but they have two places in mind.
