The number of accidents that took place in our area Monday serves as a good reminder for motorists to help first responders do their job. That doesn’t mean get out of your car and lend a helping hand, it simply means give them room to perform their duties safely. November 10th through 16th is National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week. Whether it’s an ambulance, law enforcement, fire truck, even MoDot vehicles that are responding to a call or working along the roadway, drivers need to move over whenever possible. Missouri law requires you to either change lanes or slow down when approaching stationary emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Traffic incidents are the leading cause of death for EMS responders and law enforcement officers.
