A multi-vehicle accident caused parts of Highway 7 to close for a short period of time over the weekend and sent one to the hospital in serious condition. According to the Highway Patrol, 67 year old Vernon Illum of Shawnee Kansas had stopped his 2013 ford F-150 pickup in the southbound lane of Highway 7 for an unknown vehicle. 60 year old Robert Mills of Kansas City could not stop his 1994 Dodge Dakota in time to avoid slamming into Illum’s pickup. And 23 year old Matthew George of Blairstown also could not stop his 2006 Ford F-150 and slammed into Mills’s pickup. A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 34 year old James Forcum of Independence was able to miss George’s pickup but left the roadway and stopped in a ditch. Robert Mills was transported by ambulance while his passenger, 58 year old Ida Mills, was airlifted by Lifeflight to Lake Regional Hospital.
