2018 was another busy year for recreational boating here in the Lake Area and nationwide. And with 2019 expected to be just as busy, if not busier, one national organization is hoping to get the word out about safe boating. Hannah Helsby, Deputy Executive Director of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, says the main focus of “Operation Dry Water” centers around the July 4th holiday which, this past year, saw 494 arrested for boating under the influence.
Helsby also says, over the course of ten years of Operation Dry Water, the numbers and levels of BWI’s being reported is often unbelievable.
Helsby was a guest this past weekend on the KRMS “No Wake Zone” program with Captain Bob May. Helsby goes on to say the bottom line when it comes to safer boating is education.
