If the past day or two is any indication, it’s gonna be long…and very busy…natural cover fire season around the Lake Area. Several departments have been busy battling natural cover fires which…for the most part…are starting as controlled burns. One such fire, according to Sunrise Beach Chief Dennis Reilly, got away on Friday starting a house fire down off American Legion Road.
Fortunately, firefighters were able to arrive on the scene and quickly brought that fire under control saving the house. It also prompted another warning from Lake Area fire districts that if you do burn to take all precautions. Those precautions include having a water source nearby, do not leave any burn unattended and call your local fire district first to see if open burning is being allowed for the day. You can be held liable if you start a controlled burn which gets away and causes any damage or injuries.
