There are new rules for commercial truck drivers as of January 3rd.
After that day, drivers will only be able to use a hand held cell phone if they are stopped in an area safe for parking a commercial vehicle or if they have to report an emergency.
Jan Skouby is the Director of Motor Carrier Services for MoDOT.
The driver’s company may be affected as well.
The new rule prohibits drivers from reaching for, holding, or dialing a mobile phone while driving a commercial motor vehicle truck or bus. It comes from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
