New details are being released in the explosion of a house in Lebanon that killed a navy veteran and retired police officer.
According to investigators with the State Fire Marshall, a hole in a gas line under the home somehow ignited, causing the entire house to explode, injuring 76-year-old Joe Cross who was rushed to the hospital.
He would not survive his injuries.
“We was buddies. I mean, I was over there two or three times a week. Matter of fact, I was there Wednesday night before it blowed up on Thursday.”
Speaking with our news partner, KY 3 TV, Joe’s friend and neighbor Steve Light says he’s left several flowers and a memorial to his friend out front of the debris that was Joe’s house.
“I mean I was used to looking out the window, comin’ out the door and seeing Joe sittin’ at the window. I don’t see that no more.”
Investigators say they are still unsure what caused the line to explode, but they do not believe it’s related to any criminal activity.
