Governor Jay Nixon delivered his state of the state address last night (Wednesday). Several topics were discussed including veteran issues, technology, jobs, the economy and transportation along with education, health care, ethics reform and Ferguson. Nixon stressed the need for lawmakers to work together and ended his address by focusing on the growth that has occurred in the automotive manufacturing industry. Republicans were at odds with a number of issues Governor Nixon. In their response Representative John Diehl pointed to what they call a lack of leadership during the crisis in Ferguson. They also called for changes to the current welfare system and are asking for more options in education for students attending unaccredited school districts, not just spending more money on education which they argue doesn’t necessarily make things better. The governor’s state of the state address and the republican response were aired last night on KRMS.
