Governor Jay Nixon’s call to expand Medicaid has been rejected once again. The House Health and Social Services voted 11 to 4 on Monday to defeat two attempts to insert the money into the next state budget that begins in July. Last month, Nixon had asked lawmakers to include 1.7 billion dollars in federal funds to expand Medicaid for about 300,000 people. The Democratic Governor’s Administration estimates that adding the federal money would save the State close to $53 million for the upcoming fiscal year. The panel’s recommendations will now head to the house budget committee for further consideration.
