The proposed K-9 unit for the Laurie Police Department has been shelved indefinitely. According to Acting Chief of Police, Mark Black, the city will be seeing about returning money by calling donors. Donors will be asked if they want the city to hold the money for when or if the department is in a place to move forward with a K-9 unit or if they want their money back.
The hold was put on the proposal due to medical issues of Dale Heiser, the officer who was supposed to participate in the K-9 unit. According to Black, it could be six months to a year before they might be able to review the possibility of a police dog.
