An amended version of a bill designed to reduce wakes on large coves is progressing in the legislature. House Bill 1591, sponsored by Representative David Wood, originally would have allowed land owners in 800 foot wide coves to petition for a no-wake zone affecting boats at least 26 feet long. The bill has since been amended. It will now allow for those larger coves to be designated as no-wake areas pertaining to boats 40 feet or longer. The amended legislation cleared the legislative oversight committee with a “do pass” recommendation. The bill was attached as an amendment to HB 2116, which already cleared the House and has been sent to the Senate.
