The number of executions in Missouri may be declining. Over the last 2 years, 18 executions have been carried out, only Texas has performed more, putting to death 24 convicted killers. However, death sentences in Missouri have been on the decline recently and many of the 28 death row inmates in the state are still filing appeals. On the other hand, at least one execution is imminent. Attorney General Chris Koster has asked the Missouri Supreme Court to set an execution date for Earl Forrest who has exhausted his appeals.
