We’re learning more about a boat accident that killed a Eugene man now that the official charges have been filed in connection to the incident. According to the report filed by the investigating State Trooper, Kelly Wise of Iowa had had approximately four beers the night of June 29th, prior to a collision with another boat. That accident happened at approximately 10 p.m. The report says that the boat operated by Wise was hit by a second vessel in the port, or left, side. Wise’s boat was travelling at approximately 25 mph when it was hit. Wise told the water patrol he swerved to the right to try to avoid the collision, but he didn’t see the second boat’s lights until they were right on top of him. The accident report does not indicate who was at fault for the accident, which killed 39-year old Jason Russell and injured five others, including Wise. Wise has been charged with boating while intoxicated.
