Officials from around the Lake of the Ozarks and the XO Strategic Group have been meeting with the public to discuss ideas for a proposed development including a major tournament soccer complex for the region. One possible stumbling block could be the use of public funds for the development. Greg Cotton, former CEO of Sporting Kansas City, says that while they understand the concerns, the development should be viewed as a community development goal.
Cotton says the lake’s geographic location among soccer hotbeds in St. Louis, Kansas City, Arkansas, Omaha, Des Moines, and even Indiana and Illinois makes it a perfect destination.
The development is a long-term project that could take as many as seven years or more for completion.
