Osage Beach is vying to become a “Tree City USA.” The national program has existed since 1976 and recognizes cities for their commitment to plant and maintain trees as part of their overall plans. One of the requirements is an annual program to celebrate Arbor Day. Matt Vandevoort says they’ll be doing that Tuesday with students from Osage High School.
Being a Tree City USA would qualify Osage Beach for national recognition along with grant and matching fund opportunities to plant and maintain trees. The city’s currently planning to plant hundreds of trees as part of the program. The city’s also looking for people to serve on the tree board they’ll be required to form.
