An Osage Beach woman has pled guilty to using stolen mail and stolen identities to cash fraudulent checks. The Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, Tom Larson, says 27 year old Chrystal Lynn Bernstein pled guilty on Tuesday to one charge of bank fraud, as well as one charge of aggravated identity theft. Bernstein admitted to engaging in the scheme in Boone and Camden Counties from December of 2016 to February of 2017. She opened bank accounts under false names, altered stolen checks, and cashed them under those fake names. Altogether, her victims sustained nearly $14,000 in losses. She could face up to 30 years in federal prison for bank fraud, as well as a mandatory consecutive sentence of two years for aggravated identity theft.
