A new trial date is set in the case of a Missouri state trooper charged in the death of an Iowa man while in his custody. Anthony Piercy appeared with his attorney in a Morgan County courtroom on Monday. Piercy is charged with involuntary manslaughter for his role in the May, 2014, drowning of 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson who fell from the boat Piercy was operating into the lake while wearing handcuffs and an improperly secured life jacket. Ellingson had been taken into custody by Piercy for an alleged BWI. The new trial date, set for the week of July 10, 2017, was announced just a week after the state of Missouri agreed to pay nine-million dollars to Ellingson’s family in a civil suit related to the death.
